International Day for Poverty Eradication October 17

The United Nations General Assembly, in its resolution 47/196, adopted on 22 December 1992, decided to establish October 17 as the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty and the 30th anniversary of the call of Father Joseph Lessinsky, the founder of the Fourth World Poverty Alleviation International Movement. Inspired by this action, October 17 became the “World Day to Overcome Extreme Poverty”, and the United Nations also affirmed it, setting up the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty on October 17 each year.(reporter: Charlie Zhong)
