The general debate of the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly kicked off at the UN headquarters in New York on the 25th. More than 100 heads of state, heads of government and other high-level representatives will discuss the major threats and challenges facing the world together.

In his speech, UN Secretary-General Guterres said that the United Nations has laid a solid foundation for international cooperation for decades. As the guardian of the common good, the United Nations has the responsibility to promote and support a multilateral system that has been reformed, revitalized and strengthened. Only by taking collective and common sense actions to promote common interests can humanity advance together.

In addition, Guterres talked about the urgency of tackling climate change and the importance of making proper use of new technologies. He also expressed concern about terrorism and extremism as well as nuclear proliferation.

In his speech, President Espinosa of the 73rd UN General Assembly called for the establishment of a United Nations that is closely related to everyone. She emphasized that multilateralism is the only strategy to address the global challenges facing humanity. She called for people to work together to promote gender equality, improve the environment, increase decent work, safeguard the rights of people with disabilities, promote immigration and refugee work, revitalize the United Nations, and promote peace and security.

The United Nations General Assembly is the main deliberative, supervisory and review body of the United Nations and is composed of all Member States. The General Assembly holds regular meetings from September to December each year. The regular session is usually divided into two phases. The first paragraph is the general debate stage, and the latter paragraph is the stage of the various issues that the General Assembly considers for inclusion in the agenda. The general debate is considered to be the annual UN General Assembly summit, with leaders or senior representatives from 193 member states coming together to explain their views on world issues.
